A question we are asked is if our produce is grown in a “greenhouse” or “hothouse” as frequently done in Mexico or Canada. Our answer is an unambiguous No. Our produce grows in the ground, in rich, fertile soil, receives 5-7 hours of sunlight every day, well water, and is sustainably fertilized with cover crops and natural manures. We are certified USDA Organic and receive numerous on-farm inspections every year.

Why high tunnels and cold frames?

Our humid and sometimes unpredictable weather conditions can wreak havoc on certain crops like tomatoes. A popular solution is the use of cold frames to protect from the cold and high tunnels to limit the detrimental effects of torrential rains which would normally spread foliar diseases.

Greenhouse and Hothouse grown produce tends to have poor flavor due to being grown with limited sun, being picked before ripeness, and long shipment in trucks, as well as the varieties being chosen for productivity rather than flavor. We hope you’ll taste the difference in our produce!
